| So tonight we had a bit of a cook out at Aunt Cathy’s. The kids all played in the yard and had a great time together.
Uncle Ronnie grilled potatoes and Chicken and we all had a great meal (even if the adults all ate the kid’s corn).
Geoff was greatly distressed when he took a drink of his milk and found something in it. “Awe, yuck! Something is in my milk!”
Now at this point you have to see things like I see them--with multiple cameras providing multiple angles of the same scene and all these angles get combined to tell a single story. SO, I will try to describe this scene from Camera WES and Camera AUNT.
Camera WES: Geoff take drink of milk....exclaims, “Awe, yuck! Something is in my milk!” He promptly dumps his milk out onto the ground.
TAKE Camera AUNT: Geoff pours the glass of milk onto the ground and below the stream of contaminated milk is one dog named buster. Creamed Buster.
We all had a really good laugh when we discovered the contaminate was Ketchup (Hunts, no less). Buster had to be cleaned and all was set right with our world again.
We all enjoyed a beautiful mountain sunset and enjoyed feeling the heat of the day slip away into a cool evening.

I know you all are dying to know whether we ate at the Pancake House in Liberal, KS or not...no. We ate at the Liberal Inn. But, we all had pancakes and they were very tasty.
We had a great flight, but it was a little surreal to be flying at 10, 500 feet and only be 5000 feet above the ground. I was flying level and getting closer to the ground. It seems simple in the academic world, but in the real-life version, it really makes you check you instruments to be certain of your altitude!
We arrived in Denver about 11AM local time. We had ordered a rental car from Enterprise, and they actually pulled it up right beside the plane and we unloaded the luggage right into the car.
We spent about an hour with Aunt Marcia and then met up with Uncle Ronnie and Aunt Cathy and their adopted baby Ronni.
Madi and Ronni became fast friends and now Ronni will hardly do anything without Madi. Oh, and she really likes Geoff too!
We have had a great time so far just catching up with our family, telling stories, and mainly just laughing.
I helped Uncle Ronnie get his DSL up and wirelessly routing (selfishly)! We had a bunch of Pizza for dinner and have stayed up late showing them my blog and our family web site. Somehow, Aunt Cathy hasn’t caught up with us yet--but she’ll be hooked soon!
That is all for tonight. It has been a long and fun day. Special thanks to Tiff and Christina for the logistical support at home while we are away.

| Thursday 10:40PM. We are holed up in the Liberal Inn, in Liberal, Kansas. We arrived at the Liberal Airport (KLBL) about 9:45 this evening as we wing our way toward Denver.
We had an uneventful flight with an alternator that alternated with gusto! The air was smooth and a cool 67 degrees at 8500 feet.
We got a “shuttle bus” from the Liberal Inn to come out to the airport and pick us up. The “shuttle bus” was a good-ol-boy’s 1999 Ford Explorer complete with stale cigarette smoke.
The nice lady in the airport office told all about the town while we waited for the “shuttle”. We found out that Liberal is known for its pancakes and they have a restaurant called the PANCAKE HOUSE that is not a chain but family owned... (we may check it out in the AM to see if it lives up to the hype.)
We also found out that there is a Wizard of Oz museum in town too and the Liberal Inn has a really good restaurant. Oh, and if you have time and like old airplanes, the air museum is worth your time.
All we were missing was the world’s largest ball of string!
So time for some mandated crew rest.
I will try to keep the blog really current and keep everyone up to date on our vacation adventures! | | |
| Aretha Franklin made “Respect” a smash hit song way back in the 60’s. But I have been thinking about this term called RESPECT. Even though Aretha wants me to “SOCK IT” to her, the fact is, respect is not we DEMAND, I think it is something we command.
There are a couple of people in my life who I just respect. Not because of their actions, but simply because they have a presence that COMMANDS respect.
I think there are levels of respect. ~ The basic kind--respect for our fellow mankind. ~ Earned--respect based on our performance ~ Positional--respect based on our office or position ~Persona--respect based on our sheer projection of leadership.
If you think on it, you might find that you have various levels of respect for the people in your sphere of influence. But I bet you can easily pinpoint a couple of people whom you respect because of their sheer persona and presence. This is the kind of person you want to mimic and imitate.
What do you think?

Yesterday afternoon we drove to our favorite little getaway campsite: Lake Bob (Lake Bob Sandlin).
We like Lake Bob for a couple of reasons: 1. It is close (less than 2 hours away) 2. It is a beautiful Texas State Park with actual trees 3. The campsites are very excellent for our trailer 4. There are several miles of trails that wind through the East Texas Piney Woods for us to hike.
Last night, after Tiff set up her tent, it rained and made the air soft and humid.
This morning we all slept in and enjoyed a lazy morning together. Then, we filled water bottles and Camelbaks and headed out for the hiking trail.

The day was a great day! For dinner, I cooked great big rib-eye steaks on the grill! What a feast! After dinner, we all took an evening hike along the lake.
One of my primary pathways to God is through nature, and God gave me some great opportunities to connect with Him this evening... SEE SLIDE SHOW...
After our hike, I made what Madi calls “one of your little fires”. We sat around the fire and watched the bugs kamikaze into the flames.
Tiff was able to get some studying done for a class she is taking.
We all just enjoyed each other and enjoyed the beautiful day that God made. It felt like He created it just for us!
